Held in Suspension — Original Mixed-Media Fish Artwork by Ortaire de Coupigny
Held in Suspension presents a solitary fish caught in a moment of quiet equilibrium. Encased in translucent resin within a repurposed sardine tin, the form appears neither moving nor still, but held between states — as if time itself has momentarily paused.
Ortaire de Coupigny combines metal, layered pigments, and resin casting to construct a controlled visual environment where surface, depth, and reflection interact. The fish’s gaze remains alert, its body subtly modeled through texture rather than realism, emphasizing presence over narrative.
By transforming an everyday container into a contemplative frame, the artist shifts the sardine tin from object to vessel — one that preserves not only form, but tension, silence, and duration. The work balances precision and restraint, inviting sustained observation rather than immediate interpretation.
