Oil pastel of the Scorff River in French Brittany by artist Clotilde Aksin-Frappier.

The Scorff - Oil pastel by Clotilde Aksin-Frappier

$820.00Price

Clotilde Aksin-Frappier’s oil pastel painting, "The Scorff," captures the gentle movement of the Scorff River in Brittany, France, framed by lush overhanging branches and dappled sunlight filtering through the foliage. The flowing water, dotted with moss-covered rocks, reflects the serene atmosphere of this untouched natural setting.

Oil Pastel Technique and Atmosphere

Using oil pastels, Aksin-Frappier brings the depth and richness of the landscape to life, layering colors to achieve a vibrant and textured effect. The play of light and shadow across the water and foliage creates a sense of movement, with reflections dancing on the surface and the overhanging branches adding a dynamic element to the composition.

The painting is structured around the arching tree, whose twisting branches draw the eye toward the softly flowing river. The detailed rendering of leaves, rocks, and water ripples showcases the artist’s ability to capture the essence of a place through expressive mark-making and delicate color transitions.

A Timeless Scene of the Scorff River

The Scorff River, known for its meandering course through Brittany’s forests and countryside, provides endless inspiration for artists drawn to its tranquil waters and lush surroundings. This painting reflects Aksin-Frappier’s deep appreciation for natural landscapes, where light, texture, and movement blend harmoniously.

The composition evokes the tradition of Impressionist and post-Impressionist landscape painting, where the goal is not just to depict nature but to immerse the viewer in its atmosphere. The soft yet detailed strokes of oil pastel mimic the shifting light and ever-changing textures of a riverside scene.
