Tokonoma I - Tadasuke Jinno

For the first edition of Tokonoma, the gallery presents a work by Tadasuke Jinno, whose practice developed in New York. He studied painting at The Art Students League of New York—an institution associated with artists such as Jackson Pollock and Frank Stella—where his work was selected for the school’s collection.
He subsequently exhibited in New York and participated in artist residencies across the United States, Germany, and Portugal. Since returning to Japan, his work has been presented in Tokyo and Osaka.
The work installed for Tokonoma I emerged from a dialogue between the artist and the gallery, chosen for its capacity to engage the vertical discipline of the alcove.
In the subdued light characteristic of a tokonoma, its layered surface unfolds gradually, revealing variations of depth and tone. Within the alcove, architecture, surface, and light resonate with the measured gesture of the painting.
Works may be available upon inquiry.
