🎨 Discover Christian Halna du Fretay’s Art Exhibition in Lanester During the Interceltic Festival of Lorient

If you're attending the Interceltic Festival of Lorient 2025 (August 1–10), don’t miss a unique opportunity to experience an exceptional art exhibition in Brittany by French painter Christian Halna du Fretay.

Now open in Lanester, the exhibition Éblouissements fugitifs (Ephemeral Dazzlements) unfolds across Galerie La Rotonde and the Town Hall of Lanester, offering a rich dialogue between mixed-media works on paper and large-scale paintings on canvas.

🎉 Vernissage on August 1

The vernissage will take place on August 1, aligning with the opening of the Interceltic Festival—a major annual celebration of Celtic cultures, music, and art. It’s the perfect time to explore Halna du Fretay’s vibrant and poetic visual language in a festive and culturally rich setting.

✨ What to Expect

  • At Galerie La Rotonde, the artist presents a striking selection of collages and mixed media compositions on paper. These works blur the line between abstraction and figuration, using color and texture to evoke movement and memory.

  • In the Town Hall of Lanester, large-scale paintings reveal the full range of his expressive gesture and chromatic intensity—works that invite both immersion and reflection.

“I work on the threshold of legibility,” the artist explains. “Between what has been seen and what has not yet been contemplated.”

🖼 A Featured Artist at Art San Gallery

Christian Halna du Fretay is also represented by Art San Gallery, where a curated selection of his works on Japanese shikishi boards is currently on view at our gallery in Gujo Hachiman, Japan.

These small-format paintings—executed with acrylic, pigment, collage, and pencil—explore transient forms that drift between suggestion and abstraction. Whether human, animal, or imagined, each silhouette seems to flicker between presence and disappearance.

📍 You can see these works in person in Japan or explore them online here.

Whether you're visiting Brittany for the festival or exploring new voices in contemporary French painting, this exhibition offers a contemplative and visually compelling experience.
