We are proud to share the exciting news that Olivia Lomenech Gill has been shortlisted for the 2025 Carnegie Medal for Illustration, one of the UK’s most prestigious awards celebrating excellence in children’s book illustration. Winners will be announced on June 19, 2025, at a ceremony at the Cambridge Theatre, London.
Her shortlisted work, Clever Crow, written by Chris Butterworth and published by Walker Books, is a powerful non-fiction picture book that explores the intelligence and ingenuity of crows. Olivia's distinctive illustrations—layered with watercolor, pastel, and collage—bring raw energy and beauty to the pages. Her use of deep blacks and greys, contrasted with vivid accents of red, yellow, and cobalt blue, mirrors the cleverness and complexity of the birds themselves.
This nomination is a testament to Olivia’s unique voice as an artist, blending fine art with storytelling. Already known for her illustrations in Where My Wellies Take Me and the 2017 edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, she continues to build a remarkable career at the intersection of art and narrative.
At Art San Gallery, we are honored to collaborate with Olivia and look forward to celebrating this richly deserved recognition.
