Star is an original artwork by South Korean artist Kwon YoungJin, created using watercolor, acryl gouache, and gesso on a Japanese shikishi board. Two softly rendered hands are suspended in darkness, bound by red string in the shape of a star. The composition references ayatori, the traditional string game of childhood, transformed here into a quiet meditation on memory, connection, and fragile balance.
Characteristic of Kwon YoungJin’s work, the image carries emotional weight through restraint. The stark contrast between the luminous skin tones and the matte black background amplifies the silence within the composition. The red thread—a recurring motif in East Asian visual culture—suggests invisible ties, destiny, or delicate interdependence. With minimal elements and subtle texture, this piece invites quiet reflection and intimate engagement.
