This original one-of-a-kind vintage shikishi painting by a regional Japanese artist, signed and sealed, likely dates from the late Shōwa to early Heisei period.
Depicting a sunflower with ink and soft yellow pigments, the work combines bold brushwork with a quiet sense of balance. The contrast between the dark leaves and the warm flower head gives the composition a strong presence while preserving the openness characteristic of floral paintings on shikishi.
Presented as a reference work within the Shikishi Art Project, this painting offers insight into the cultural and material context from which contemporary practices on shikishi continue to develop.
