The fish seem propelled forward, caught between drift and acceleration, their vivid pigments and layered textures suggesting force rather than stillness. Encased in resin within a sardine tin, the composition balances energy and containment—an image of motion paused, but not subdued.
Ortaire de Coupigny combines metal, layered pigments, and resin casting to construct a controlled visual environment where surface, depth, and reflection interact.
By transforming an everyday container into a contemplative frame, the artist shifts the sardine tin from object to vessel — one that preserves not only form, but tension, silence, and duration. The work balances precision and restraint, inviting sustained observation rather than immediate interpretation.
