British Large Copper Butterfly (Sumi-e)
Ships from Japan.
In this delicate sumi-e composition, Haruka Miyamoto pays homage to the extinct British Large Copper butterfly (Lycaena dispar), once native to the English fens. Arranged in a vertical sequence from abstract to detailed, the artwork captures both the transformation of form and the quiet poetry of disappearance. The left column suggests fleeting impressions of wings, while the right side evokes the taxonomic clarity of entomological plates.
This piece is part of Haruka Miyamoto’s Extinct Animals exhibition, a thematic exploration of vanished species through refined ink technique and leather sculptures. Rendered on a traditional Japanese shikishi board, it also belongs to the Shikishi Art Project by Art San Gallery—where scientific memory meets meditative brushwork.
