Down the River (Sardine Tin Art)
Ships from Japan.
Down the River by Ortaire de Coupigny demonstrates the artist’s signature process of transforming everyday sardine tins into sculptural tableaux. Two individually sculpted and hand-painted fish are suspended in a layer of translucent resin, which lends the work its depth and aquatic atmosphere. The golden tin frames the composition, emphasizing the contrast between industrial material and painterly surface. The juxtaposition of color, texture, and light reflects Coupigny’s exploration of transparency and containment, offering a contemporary reinterpretation of both object and image.
