Shadows on the Roofs is an original oil painting on Japanese shikishi board by French artist Sébastien Coueffic, part of his Architecture series for Art San Gallery. This compact work captures a sunlit urban rooftop scene defined by sharp angles, flat color fields, and dynamic shadow lines. The composition emphasizes the contrast between white and pastel-toned façades, with saturated blue skies creating a striking chromatic backdrop.

Coueffic’s precise use of oil paint enhances the crisp edges and rhythmic balance of architectural forms. His style echoes the visual clarity of modernist painting and the structural abstraction of Precisionism, while the tight framing recalls the compositional sensibility of Japanese woodblock prints. Painted on a traditional shikishi board, the work gains both material richness and focused scale.

Shadows on the Roofs reflects Coueffic’s continued exploration of form, light, and urban space—offering a vivid, distilled vision of everyday architecture through color harmony and spatial simplicity.
