Discover the Art San Catalog: Authentic Japanese Shikishi Boards from Mino, Japan

Art San Gallery is pleased to share its 2025 professional catalog, presenting our collection of Japanese Shikishi boards and Tatōshi envelopes made in Mino, Gifu Prefecture — the birthplace of washi paper and a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage site.

Designed for professional artists, art retailers, and galleries, our materials combine traditional craftsmanship with the versatility needed for modern artistic practice.

The Essence of Japanese Craftsmanship

Our shikishi boards and tatōshi envelopes are selected in collaboration with a master paper-mounting craftsman from Mino.Every layer — from the inner core to the gold-edged finish — reflects the precision and beauty that define Japanese paper culture.

The catalog features two main paper types, each adapted to a wide range of techniques:

  • Gasen dōsa – lightly textured, ideal for sumi-e (ink painting), nihonga, gouache, acrylic, oil pastel, and mixed-media works.

  • Torinoko dōsa – smooth and ivory-toned, perfect for watercolor, pencil, fine line work, and layered washes.

Each is available in standard format (242 × 273 mm / 9.53 × 10.75 in) and mini format (121 × 136 mm / 4.76 × 5.35 in).

These supports adapt seamlessly between Japanese and Western techniques — from delicate ink brushwork to experimental collage, from abstract pigment layers to figurative expression.
